In Introductions
Hi, my name is George and I live in Tacoma, WA. When I was in HS I owned a 1970 GTO that I loved to work on all the time. I went into the USAF in July of 1980 and worked as a Crew Chief on several aircraft over my 20 years of service: F-15C/D, F-111A, A-10A, and finally the C-141B. After retiring from the Air Force I got into working on computers and still do from time to time. During my Air Force days, I managed to collect about 500 LPs (now up to 542) and around 940 CDs. In 2012 I got back into spinning my albums on an Audio-Technica AT-LP120 that I learned a lot from and now it's just used to spin and clean my albums as it's a real POS. My main turntable is my Rega Planar 2 with a Denon DL-103R going through a Schiit Mani 2 through a Schiit SYS to a Focusrite Scarlette 2I2 2nd Gen to my computer. My second turntable is my Technics SL-Q2 going through a Schiit Mani to the Schiit SYS to the Scarlette 2I2 using either my Grado Black, Nagaoka MP-150, Ortofon MC-3 Turbo, Pickering XV-15/625E, or a Stanton L720EE (both Pickering carts and the Stanton cart have the LP Gear Vivid Line Contact aftermarket styluses on them). I do have a 3rd turntable, Pioneer PL-7 with a Pickering XV-25/625E connected to a Schiit Mani and Schiit SYS connected to my Sony surround sound 5.1 system. I have a YouTube channel, Vinyl Rescue, where I upload mainly needle-drop videos of my favorite songs from my album collection and turntable tweaks and mods. Recently I've been watching a lot of videos on tube amps and everything related and it's really sparked my interest in wanting to build the EAR834 clone all vacuum tube phono stage pre-amplifier from Skunkie's videos. I've got most of the tools and some of the supplies, but I'm saving up to buy the rest. I'm on the fence if I want to venture into building a tube amp or not, but the headphone box looks like a fun project to add to a tube amp without a headphone jack as I need one. I also want to build a set of small desktop speakers to replace my Klipsch Promeida 2.1 that I have connected to my Schiit Modi and Magni setup. I'm a bit of a night owl so I use my Sennheiser HD 300 PRO headphones quite a lot so as not to disturb my wife. I look forward to getting started on the EAR834 clone as soon as I can so I can hear the difference and it looks like fun to build since I'm not an electrician-mined kind of person.
I'm new to the Vacuum Tube scene content media
