At one point I considered doing a small production run of my 6SQ7/EL34 amp, but product liability (high voltage lawsuit, "No one told me not to poke a fork inside it") and customer support headaches changed my mind. Also not sure how well a $1200 product in this class would sell, folks would want to pay Reisong A12 prices and the parts cost more than that amp retails for.

You are quite right Skunkie, the legal minefields are the pitfall and your insurance costs would have to be accounted for as well. You are better off selling them as kits.

With kits will come the support issues And the drain on your time. I had a line of turntables that I once sold. There was a degree of complexity in the setup. I only sold 36 of them but the support for minor issues was unexpected. It seemed that the people who bought them were pretty much incapable of the simplest tasks like installing the belt correctly. So be prepared! A solution for you is to provide support through a forum page so that members can take some of the load. As you already have a good following, it should work ok.

Aah, McChanson, what an icon down under. Ive always loved the name and reading his ads on Gumtree.

Bottlehead and Spud Kit are institutions in the US. While mainly in the kit business, they also build them for customers who can’t wield a soldering iron.

Decware is famous of course, and is also a tiny family business, fiercely hanging onto that structure. So popular that wait times are stretching into 2 years nowadays.

In Europe, there is Doge, basically a one-man show run by Marc Doge. Marc is a really nice guy, always ready for a chat. He has a small team building his amps in China.
