Reissong A12 / A10 Classy Pao Ferro Wood plinth

Something I had been pondering for a long time, years actually, finally became reality this September. My A10, sounding gorgeous after my Skunkie schematics circuit update, to my eyes looked a little too blingy, with all shiny stainless steel. I wanted that serious botique-build look with wooden sides, like the super expensive japanese ones... A youtube video with a guy making a fixture for a common handheld planer, making it able to precision plane wood, kicked me off. Pao Ferro wood for making guitar fretboards, bought from Aliexpress, became the candidate.

Reissong A12 / A10 Remote volume control 2021

Hi everyone. I bought my 1st tube amplifier ever ( I born in 1963 ) in December 2020, a Reissong A10 directly from China- HiFi ( = A12 but 6N2 driver tubes ). After successfully rebuilding it according to Skunkie´s schematics, I decided to install remote volume control. I bought a remote volume control from Aliexpress, 100k resistance, just like the one in pict below.

It is very crowded and cramped just behind the original volume pot, and the Aliexpress motorized remote pot is rather bulky, so there had to be some engineering work done to install it. I realize this build may not be for everyone, but possibly someone would like to try it out, and then I could give som hints on details of my own installation.

After quite some tinkering, it all worked, and it was really rewarding.

First build ! EAR834

First time building something from scratch! Loved seeing Stephe building her preamp and I adventured into creating her design. Once it was totally finished it has amazing sound and totally zero hum that the record player doesn't even need grounding. Playing music with my Dual 1229Q with a AT540ML on it. I'm enjoying it so much !! Very excited!!

Reisong A10 modification results

Reisong A10/A12 Modifications

I completed the Skunkie modifications on my A10 and compared it with my Onkyo receiver using a Douk Audio switcher box. The A10, now an A12, sounded much better but still sounded too bright. There was still a little harshness to a female singer’s voice so that the Onkyo sounded smoother and had better soundstage. I kept stepping down the value of the resistors for Schade feedback and got a little improvement each time. I ended up with 360k for a feedback resistor and wanted to improve it some more so I ordered some more resistors and some orange drop capacitors (.33 and .47) to try for new coupling caps. The parts came in and I listened again carefully to get a good idea of where I stood before making any more changes and found out something had changed!

Without changing anything, the harshness had disappeared…
