Reisong A10 mod troubleshooting

Finished doing Stephe's mod to my A10. Fired it up and it works, but my left channel is not as loud as the right. I swapped the EL34's to an Apex matched pair thinking it may be the stock Psvane tubes, but it didn't make a difference.

I'm thinking maybe I have the wrong value of resistor somewhere in the left circuit?

Thanks for any help!

I did the mod a couple years ago and didn’t hear any noticeable balance issues once I upgraded the tubes. The stock tubes were way un-matched. The new tues are matched JJs, and we’re crucial in making my A10 sound fantastic. I didn’t make any changes to her spec, wiring or otherwise. Glad yours is working well now.

Color Preamp Using 6N16B-V Tubes

I have a Vincent SA-31 and re-capped and replaced the tubes with some Russian 6N16B-V's and it sounds fantastic! I have quite a few left over so I am wondering if/how I can utilize them in a modified version of the Color Preamp? I bought a Hammond 262EE6 transformer (120V Sec@ 93ma + 6.3@1.2A) hoping I could use it for this project. Any advice on how the schematic could be modified for their use would be much appreciated!

I think the problem you would run into direct swapping is the anode voltage limitation is 100V I believe?

Riesong A10 very quiet

Hello,

I just finished my 2nd Skunkie moded Riesong A 10/ A12. It has been so satisfying to tinker and hear the improvements in sound.

On this 2nd one, when I turn it on the amp plays marginally loud, then gets quieter until the maximum volume is just a whisper. The volume knob does affect the volume.

I've swapped tubes, still quiet. re-flowed most of the solder joints. Voltage at B1 is around 300v.

Any thoughts on where to look?

Much appreciated

Tube Recommendation

I built and enjoy Skunkie’s EL34 amp earlier in the year.

I had been using JJ EL34L tubes in another amp prior to using them in the Skunie amp. I have noticed noisy tubes on amp power up. I didn’t think much of it until recently I started hearing some distortion. Swapping the tubes in the amp, the issue followed the tube.

I was going to order another set of JJs but wanted to see what tubes others are running or prefer.

To be clear, the amp did not cause this problem, I have had the tubes for a while. I’ve also been known to leave amps running overnight. By accident of course.

The JJs are a good value so likely I’ll get another set regardless.

i have a few questions before making sugggestions: 1. to be clear, there is a noise problem that follows an EL34, correct? 2. how much do you want to spend? 3. does the skunkie amp require a matched pair EL34?
