I thought I would share my reactions after testing a new matched pair of PSVANE HORIZON 5AR4-AT (GZ34) rectifier tubes. I haven't run them in an amp to determine sound quality or longevity; just performed tube tests using my eTracer PC controlled vacuum tube curves tracer/tester. I also inspected the tube internals, comparing them to Mullards, Toshiba, Gold Lion and Tube Amp Doctor. I understand Stephe is planning some reviews on these rectifier tubes.
These tubes run very hot, as you would expect with current pushers. I suggest allowing them to cool before tube rolling, as other buyers have reported the glass printing may rub off a hot tube.
I was very impressed with the tube internals. The internal structure (welding, mica anti-vibration spacers and support rod thickness) was as good as the best of my rectifier stock.
The bases appear to have gold plated pins and metal wrapped over PFTE (?) bases. These tube bases look superior to any other NOS rectifiers in my stocks.
These tested very well and balanced. All numbers were within 10% between diode sections and above the datasheet reference values. The eTracer test reference numbers are from a newer Mullard datasheet (there is a newer and older datasheet).
These are visually pleasing to look at, the heaters glow very nice. At around $50 for a single tube I hope these sound good and are long lasting.
